Seen it sort of like that in Egypt when there was a sandstorm but it was as you say in the air rather than in the clouds.

We get them relatively often Mab; There is this big old scarey gum tree in a neighbours yard, that I'm just waiting to come crashing down on my house in one of these storms. I have just got a message from a friend in Perth saying that he just put the bins out and it was 2 degrees! Your weather sounds awful though!
